Are You Able To Switch Off?

I was working with a client this week, who will be made redundant after working with the same company for over 30 years and latterly forgoing annual holiday entitlement to be at work!

For the lady who loves her holidays and works to have her holidays and quality family time, I found this astonishing and scary, however according to Talking Talent in an Evening Standard article on 27th April more than a quarter (27%) of working parents surveyed said that on average, seven or more days of their holiday went unused last year, due to workload.

Almost a quarter of staff report "significant stress each day at work".  A third of employees are also working in the evening and at weekends. Where will this end?

I have to admit at this point in time to also being guilty of working in the evenings and occasionally at weekends , which is why I need to have and be able to "switch off".

When I am walking, I allow my mind to wonder and attempt to empty my head of thoughts. Things may bubble to the surface which are work related, however it is always with a sense of clarity and calm, which I find useful.

Before I know it, I have clocked up circa 6,000 steps and spent a productive 35/40 minutes decluttering my head space and gaining a sense of perspective!

I heard on the radio that Cancer Research have set a challenge for June, to walk 10,000 steps each day.

I'm on it! Are you???

Realise how taking time to fit a 30-40 minute walk in your day can make a difference to you mentally and physically;

Aspire then once you have done this to increase this to two 30-40 minute walks and you'll easily have achieved your 10,000 steps;

Do it for you and to support Cancer Research.

I'd love to know how you get on. Drop me an email or tweet with your stories.

    This old adage is so true whether applied to recruitment methods, meetings or retaining talent to name but a few areas.
