September Is The New January!

If you are returning to work after your summer holiday or soon to be returning to school after the summer break do you feel refreshed, energised and "raring to go"?

Or are you perhaps "stuck in a rut"; unsure of your direction; wishing the summer didn't have to end?

Wouldn't it be great to find or be in the job you love? As my colleague and "kindred spirit", Cindy Estell says in her new book "Cooking up success - helping you discover the job of your dreams", most people spend more time planning a trip/holiday than they do in finding their next role.

You all have your own "ingredients for success", it is about knowing how to put them all together.  This applies to each and everyone of us whether you are working, running your own business or at school.

What do you love to do? Or if you look back over all the roles you have had, when were you at your best? What was it about that role, that made you thrive?

Reflecting on these questions you can identify the core skills you use when doing what you love and if you are at school think about the career path you want to follow.

If you want to continue doing what you love you need to ensure any future role or opportunity has these present.

How often do you maybe know some or all of these facts, however ignore them anyway and wonder why you are feeling worn out, unappreciated, bored??

These are just the initial "ingredients" you can work with.

As I have heard today on the radio, 1st September is becoming like 1st January therefore, with that in mind, is it not time to:

Realise the opportunities awaiting you;

Aspire to make those opportunities a reality; and

Do step out of your comfort zone and take control!

  • “If you do what you’ve always done; you’ll get what you’ve always got”
    This old adage is so true whether applied to recruitment methods, meetings or retaining talent to name but a few areas.

  • One of the positives of the pandemic is that there is no longer the monopoly on leadership due to position.
  • I have previously written about "Belonging - what does this mean to you?" (http://j-w-c.co.uk/blog-display/293). I want to now build on this and consider it from a team's perspective and what it means if you are a manager leading a team currently.

  • Recently, I was delivering the "First 90 Days in your New Role" for LHH. This is a workshop which generates great discussion around helping people who are still interviewing to find their next appropriate opportunity and to think about how they would answer this question at interview.
