This is Me! Stay True To Your Values With Leadership And Management Training

I saw the film The Greatest Showman on New Year’s Day, and I have to say it's one of the most uplifting films I have seen in a very long time. The soundtrack alone is unbelievable!

I found the title of the above song particularly relevant, as this could relate to so many things in today’s world of work.

For those of you who are leaders or who manage people; are you courageous and comfortable enough to say “this is me!”; to lead with authenticity and stay true to your values, to be willing to make unpopular decisions, and to do the right thing? We want to help you make sure you can do these things with our leadership and management training services.

It can be all too easy to conform to what others think, or the way we think they want us to behave. As the old adage says “if you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got”.

As a leader in today’s constantly changing world of work, you need to demonstrate courage in order to make tough decisions, walk the road less traveled, and challenge the status quo.

However, as a leader you can only do this with the support and alignment of your teams. Therefore you need to inspire, engage, and bring people with you, remembering to check along the way that your team are with you and that they understand and have clarity.

What can you do to develop and demonstrate courageous leadership? My personal thoughts are:

  1. Identify what stops you from taking courageous actions; namely, what’s holding you back? What resources do you have to change this?
  2. At some point in the past you will have been courageous in your actions. Recognise what you did then, and draw on these resources.
  3. You will only grow as a leader if you move out of your comfort zone and accept failure is part of learning and growth.
  4. One of my other favourite sayings is “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Practise small courageous acts to build your confidence.
  5. Finally, and perhaps for me the most important; be authentic and stay aligned to your values.

Realise that each one of us can be a courageous leader;

Aspire to be that authentic leader; and

Do take risks, even small ones, to take yourself out of your comfort zone!

... and one final Do; Do listen to the above song, and if you already played it once, Do listen to it again!
