A Spoonful of Peace - Mindful Baking

Its been a busy and long week for me; in fact its been a busy few months! From a business perspective this is great, and I am forever thankful. However, when you run a business its important to ensure you create time to work on your own business, and also create time for you!

I was reflecting on this on my train journey home from London, and realising it was almost the end of September and remembering about an article I recently read about "mindful baking" in Boots' magazine.

I have to admit; I find it less than easy to switch off, and especially so when I'm at home! There can just always be something to do. I realised that the only time I actually do switch off is when I bake - all the while not knowing that there is such a thing as “mindful baking” - well, until now anyway that is, amazing!

When I'm making my signature tea loaf (well I like to think it's my signature piece, though I don’t think I'm quite of The Great British Bake Off standard - I love that programme!), there is no “white noise” in my head. I'm totally focused on what I'm doing; concentrating on measuring the exact amount of self-raising floor, and the exact amount of water to put the tea bag in and then soak my mixed dried fruit. As I mix all my ingredients together with my spatula, I'm at peace - only aware of the present; beating and mixing as hard as I can, my mixture coming together. My only thoughts are of this, and I feel calm.

Does it matter what the Tea Loaf will turn out like? Well, I'm sure both my husband & I will eat it no matter what. I know my Dad definitely would! Just like he would “have to try it, just to make sure it was ok”...

Realise that its OK to not know all the answers;
Aspire to let your mind wander and just notice, and;
Do celebrate the tiny joys - for me this is baking and dancing!
