Letter to Iona - Realise, Aspire, Do

Iona has always been my light and I would like to share with her what I hope she already knows and I have told her, as she has been growing up.

I realised when I thought about what I wanted to write, that actually my business strap line pretty much said it all:

Realise your strengths and play to them. If you do you it is more likely to mean you will be doing something you love and be a success.! You are then following your path and no one else's. I have always loved Steve Job's quote "Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become" and I hope Iona you will always remember this. Don't temper these strengths as these passions are what make you, "you" and the light you are.

Aspire to be all you can be. Follow your dreams and your heart and never give up! Your own personal self belief is one of the most powerful things. Never loose it and don't ever allow anyone to knock it or take it from you. As your Dad once said to me in relation to my business, "I had this self belief that I would make my business a success and I did!"

Do it! Take action, always move forward. Push yourself out of your comfort zone, however, if you are doing what you love and are passionate about - how far can you really be out of your comfort zone?

If my wee girl can audition and get the lead part she so wanted at 9, then my darling you can shine and light up your life stage easily!

All my love always

  • “If you do what you’ve always done; you’ll get what you’ve always got”
This old adage is so true whether applied to recruitment methods, meetings or retaining talent to name but a few areas.

  • I have previously written about "Belonging - what does this mean to you?" (http://j-w-c.co.uk/blog-display/293). I want to now build on this and consider it from a team's perspective and what it means if you are a manager leading a team currently.

  • Recently, I was delivering the "First 90 Days in your New Role" for LHH. This is a workshop which generates great discussion around helping people who are still interviewing to find their next appropriate opportunity and to think about how they would answer this question at interview.
